Isn't O'Brien supposed to be the next Pavelski? Kid needs to get on a golf course stat.

8 players in total.

The future looks bright. Hopefully soon enough that some of our more elderly posters can die happy.

It seems this Noah Cates kid has just appeared out of nowhere. Another 5th round pick. Hexy recently hit on Lindblom is the 5th, Ghost in the 3rd, and a few other late rounders who have some potential to play in the NHL.

Kudos to the scouting department.

What’s the latest on Noah Cates? Has been on my radar since he was drafted and now he is popping up on the screen. Maybe someone has info on him they can share.

On Friday, Ron Hextall discussed Cates on the "Real Deal Hockey with Bundy and Bill" podcast that Chris Therien and I co-host. It is near the end:

Listened to this the other night, found it interesting. They have a lot of prospects, obviously all won't make it but they are in really good shape. Seemed like Hextall brushed over Simmonds status, but I may be just reading to much into it.

When I see comments like this, I wonder what it is you expected him to say?

I don't live near philly and only get updates from blogs and podcasts. I am a Simmonds fan and hope he gets re-signed. I'll keep my thoughts to myself next time.

I could see why Hextall talks about it in limited spurts. He would sound like a broken record "Obviously we are looking to work out a deal with Simmer". Although he could describe what Simmonds had for breakfast geez.

To be fair, using the internet is the fastest and most useful tool to get information. Trust me, local news and papers are normally far behind so you are not missing anything not being local.

No its not that. I just get surprised because it seems like people want Hexy to come out and say exactly what he plans to do giving away his entire plan.

I am a Simmonds fan as well and also hope he gets resigned. But Hexy is certainly not going to say anything that may drive the price up by telling us how much he wants that to happen. Or saying he doesn't want him back or anything of the sort.

My "reading between the lines" take is that Hexy is definitely going to try to resign him but that if Simmer's price is too high they will walk away. And Hexy definitely does not want to even HINT at what that price may be.

Understood. And also understand Hextall never plays his cards publicly. My reading between the lines is (I believe around draft time) he said they wanted to get him signed. Then they signed JVR to a significant cap hit. I know he said it has no impact on Simmonds but Simmonds will have his own significant cap hit. I am not hoping for it but I am expecting Simmonds to be traded.

I am WAY more concerned about term than I am with cap hit where Simmonds is concerned.

I wouldn't go more than 4 years (preferably 3) even if it meant giving him 7 aav for that 3 years.

Agreed, 4 years is the absolute most I’d be comfortable with.
